Money & Tax

Most money questions in the UK come down to the same thing: what actually lands in your account after tax. These calculators separate gross figures from net ones, and show the deductions in between rather than hiding them behind a single number.

Every result is an estimate based on published rules for a stated tax year. Where a calculator depends on thresholds or rates, the tax year and the source are shown on the page so you can check the figures yourself.

Why estimates differ from your payslip

Payroll software applies your tax code, any prior-year adjustments, student loan plan type, salary sacrifice arrangements and pension scheme mechanics. A general calculator cannot know all of these, so treat the output as a well-informed estimate rather than a prediction of a specific payslip.

If a figure matters for a decision — a job offer, a dividend, a self-assessment payment — check it against HMRC guidance or speak to an accountant.

Tax years and timing

The UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April. Rates and thresholds can change at the start of a tax year, and occasionally mid-year. Each calculator states which tax year's rules it applies.
